The E36 M3 Luxury package was purely about comfort and convenience — leather, power and heated front seats, wood or upgraded trim, and generally more sound deadening — so a Luxury car sits a little heavier and a lot plusher.
The base M3 kept the cloth Vader sport seats and less equipment, which makes it lighter and the one enthusiasts tend to prefer for a track-leaning build.
