The real S52 bottom-end concern is the oil-pump nut, not the rod bearings people fixate on.
On the S52/S50 (and the wider M50/M52 family) the oil-pump drive chain has no tensioner, so any slack lets the reverse-threaded pump nut — torqued to only about 25 Nm — hammer itself loose. If it walks off, the sprocket departs and you lose oil pressure entirely: a catastrophic failure
