If your E36's valet key won't open the trunk or the glovebox, that's by design, not a fault.
The car came with a master key and a plainer valet (service) key, and the valet key is deliberately cut so it starts the car and opens the doors but is locked out of the trunk and the lockable glovebox — so you can hand it to a parking valet or a shop without giving them access to whatever you've locked away.
