A steering shimmy or pedal pulsation when you brake gets blamed on "warped rotors", but on an E36 the front control-arm (thrust-arm) bushings are the more common cause — the rear "lollipop" bushing deflects under braking load and lets the arm walk, which reads as a shake through the wheel
